Gursimran Datla - Writer, Director and Producer


Gursimran is a founder of BetterHalf Films, He has directed and produced award-winning short films that have screened at several film festivals.
Gursimran is a fresh graduate from the virtual production certificate program, Sheridan College, Toronto . He is also a postgraduate in advanced filmmaking and arts administration (2018).
Gursimran is an alumni of the EAVE Producers Program at the National Screen Institute of Canada (NSI).
Gursimran is enthusiastic about using visual storytelling as a means to spread knowledge, spark change, and motivate action.
He is currently participating in the Whistler Film Festival's producer’s lab, where he will advance to the production stage of his feature script, "We Must Now Depart."

Our story

Betterhalf Films Ltd. is a newly formed production business owned and controlled by Gursimran Datla.
Our mission is to facilitate the telling of stories by individuals who work independently as creators. We offer advisory services for the creation of digital films and series, as well as aid at an industrial level with grant writing and navigation of Canadian and worldwide funding sources.



Being a member of the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA), we are working to create opportunities to provide mentorship to equity-deserving candidates under their student work placement program and mentorship program for diverse producers.

Community College Internship:

As a postgraduate in the Advanced Filmmaking program at Centennial College, Gursimran understands the value of hands-on experience. Betterhalf Films has pledged to work with community art colleges to provide opportunities for fresh graduates to get hands-on experience in different departments of digital filmmaking. We hope to run 4- to 6-week internships, providing an inclusive environment for the future filmmakers of Canada.
